Philips Heartstart HS1 paediatric electrode pads

The Philips HeartStart HS1 Infant/Child SMART Pads Cartridge is the genuine paediatric electrode cartridge for the Philips HeartStart HS1 defibrillator.

Designed for infants and children under 8 years old and weighing less than 25 kg, the cartridge automatically tells the HS1 that paediatric treatment is required. The defibrillator then adjusts its voice instructions and reduces the nominal shock energy from 150 joules to 50 joules.

The pads are supplied ready inside a snap-in cartridge, helping make replacement and installation straightforward.

Paediatric Use

The Philips HeartStart HS1 Infant/Child SMART Pads are intended for patients who are:

• 0–8 years old, and
• Under 25 kg

When the Infant/Child SMART Pads Cartridge is installed, the HeartStart HS1 automatically recognises it and changes its operation for paediatric treatment.

The AED provides paediatric-specific voice instructions and reduces the nominal defibrillation energy to 50 joules.

For patients over 8 years old or weighing 25 kg or more, use the compatible Philips HeartStart HS1 Adult SMART Pads Cartridge.

No Infant/Child Key Required

Unlike the Philips HeartStart FRx, the HS1 does not require a separate Infant/Child Key.

Paediatric operation is activated by installing the dedicated M5072A Infant/Child SMART Pads Cartridge.

Pad Replacement and Use-By Date

Philips states that the cartridge is labelled with a use-by date of at least two years from the date of manufacture.

The expiry date should be checked routinely as part of your AED inspection schedule. Replace the cartridge after use or when the printed use-by date is reached.
