Can a defibrillator kill you?
Automated external defibrillators (AEDs) are designed to be very safe, and the risk of serious harm from using one correctly is extremely low.
An AED analyses the electrical rhythm of the heart before deciding whether a shock is appropriate. It will only advise or deliver a shock when it detects a rhythm suitable for defibrillation.
For someone who is unresponsive and not breathing normally, the greater danger is delaying CPR and defibrillation.
