Clear Step-by-Step Guidance
The HeartStart HS1 is designed to make using an AED as straightforward as possible. Detailed voice instructions guide the rescuer through the emergency, including pad placement, rhythm analysis, shock delivery and CPR.
The HS1 adapts its instructions to the rescuer's actions and pace. It waits until an action has been completed before moving to the next step and can repeat or rephrase prompts when required.
Semi-Automatic Operation with Quick Shock
The HS1 automatically analyses the patient's heart rhythm and determines whether a shock is required.
When a shock is advised, the AED charges and instructs the rescuer to press the flashing orange shock button. Philips Quick Shock technology means the HS1 is typically ready to deliver a shock within 8 seconds after the end of a CPR interval.
Adult and Paediatric Treatment
The HS1 uses an Adult SMART Pads cartridge for adult treatment.
For infants and children under 8 years old or weighing less than 25 kg, an Infant/Child SMART Pads cartridge is available separately. When fitted, the HS1 automatically recognises the paediatric pads and adjusts its CPR instructions and shock energy for the child.
Battery Life and Automatic Self-Testing
The Philips battery provides a typical four-year standby life when installed by its install-by date, with capacity for a minimum of 200 shocks or four hours of operating time.
The HS1 carries out automatic self-tests daily, weekly and monthly, checking important functions including the pads, internal circuitry, waveform delivery and battery capacity. A flashing green Ready light indicates that the AED is ready for use.
